Japan’s New Ambassador to Maldives Meets Foreign Minister

The newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday morning.
During the meeting, Minister Dr Khaleel congratulated Ambassador Ishigami on presenting her credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu earlier in the day and reaffirmed appreciation for the longstanding cooperation between the two nations. He highlighted the enduring friendship and close partnership between the Maldives and Japan, acknowledging Japan’s significant contributions through its official development assistance programme and the Grass Roots Project schemes, which have directly benefited local communities.

Ambassador Ishigami expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and reiterated her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest and further consolidate the deep-rooted bonds of friendship, including expanding people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
