JSC Opens Applications for Chief Justice Post

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced the opening for the post of Chief Justice following the retirement of Chief Justice Ahmed Muathasim Adnan.
In its announcement, the JSC invited interested candidates to submit their applications by the 29th of this month. Applicants must hold at least a first degree in jurisprudence and law and have a minimum of seven years of experience as a judge or an advocate.
Under the appointment process, the President will propose a candidate to parliament based on the recommendation of the JSC.
Chief Justice Muathasim, who officially retired yesterday, was first appointed to the Supreme Court bench in December 2019 and soon after assumed the role of Chief Justice.
Justice Abdulla Hameed has temporarily taken over as the acting head of the Supreme Court, the court confirmed yesterday.
