JSC Seeks Legal Representation for Supreme Court Cases

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of the Maldives has announced its search for a qualified attorney to represent them in cases before the Supreme Court. 

The call for applications was outlined in a statement released today via the social media platform X.

According to the Terms of Reference, specific responsibilities are expected from the selected candidate, including diligent advocacy on behalf of the Commission, comprehensive legal research, preparation of necessary documentation for court submissions, and addressing legal matters pertinent to the Commission’s affairs.

Candidates vying for this position are required to meet certain educational and professional criteria. They must hold a valid license to practice law in the Sharia Courts of Maldives and the Supreme Court, possess fluency in both English and Dhivehi languages, and declare any potential conflicts of interest arising from familial or business relationships with judicial personnel or court employees.

The agreement, once awarded, is set for a duration of one year from the date of contract signing, with provisions for extension at the Commission’s discretion. Successful applicants will be provided with a designated workspace and necessary resources to fulfil their duties.

In terms of remuneration, the selected candidate will receive a monthly salary of MVR5000, with additional compensation of MVR 500 per hour for work exceeding one hour daily, capped at six hours per day.

The JSC is an independent legal entity whose core mandate revolves around the appointment of judges, excluding the Chief Justice and Supreme Court judges, advising the President on judicial appointments, and managing the overall administrative functions of the Maldivian judiciary.
