Judges Association Calls for Urgent Investigation into Arson Incident
The Judges Association of Maldives condemned the arson incident that took place in the early hours of Thursday, where Maalhosmadulu, Inguraidhoo senior magistrate Mohamed Rashad’s motorcycle was deliberately set ablaze, rendering it irreparable.

The Judges Association of Maldives urged the relevant authorities to promptly launch a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Judges Associaition of Maldives stated that according to the current laws, irrespective of whether the responsible party is an ordinary individual or holds a position within the government, any attempt to interfere with a judge’s work is strictly prohibited. The association emphasises the need to safeguard judicial independence.
They also mentioned that regardless of public sentiments towards judges or any potential threats arising from the cases they preside over, it is imperative that judges receive adequate protection from the relevant government authorities.
In light of existing laws, the Judges Association of Maldives urges the authorities to confirm the implementation of necessary safety measures for judges and to take immediate actions to ensure their protection.
