Ken’dhikulhudhoo, and Manadhoo Councils Raise Urgent Concerns On Healthcare, And Stalled Infrastructure

Councils of Noonu Atoll, Ken’dhikulhudhoo, and Manadhoo raised concerns over healthcare, infrastructure, and transport during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visits to the islands yesterday.
During his ongoing tour of Noonu Atoll, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with island councils and community leaders who raised key concerns related to healthcare services, delays in infrastructure projects, and the need for improved youth facilities. In Ken’dhikulhudhoo, the council highlighted the need to expand electricity, accelerate water and sanitation projects, and advance school development. Meanwhile, Manadhoo’s council called for specialised healthcare services, urgent repairs to the island’s drainage system, and action on the delayed harbour and police station projects.
Key Discussions in Ken’dhikulhudhoo
At the Secretariat of the Ken’dhikulhudhoo Island Council, President Muizzu met with council members, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of key local institutions to discuss the island’s developmental priorities.
Council members welcomed the launch of the RTL school bus service and highlighted its positive impact on the community. They also raised several areas requiring urgent attention, including:
- Strengthening healthcare services
- Advancing the school development project
- Expanding the electricity supply to newly populated areas
- Speeding up the establishment of water and sanitation systems
In response, President Muizzu assured that the Government would address these concerns. He also provided updates on ongoing development efforts, supported by cabinet ministers and representatives of relevant companies present at the meeting.
Earlier in the day, the President officially inaugurated the RTL bus service in Ken’dhikulhudhoo.
Health and Infrastructure Take Priority in Manadhoo
At Manadhoo Asvaaru Hall, President Muizzu met with the Island Council, WDC members, and heads of local institutions to discuss the island’s pressing needs.
The Council prioritised health sector improvements, specifically calling for the introduction of physiotherapy, psychiatric services, and speech therapy. They also raised concerns regarding the stalled harbour development, citing issues with the channel, lack of accessible stairs for the elderly, and the positioning of the outer jetty in the lagoon.
In addition, the Council emphasised:
- The urgent need to repair the island’s drainage system
- Delays in establishing a police station
- Youth development, including new sports facilities
- Broader road and infrastructure upgrades
President Muizzu reassured the community that the Government would carefully assess each concern and work towards practical, timely solutions. He also shared updates on current development projects, with further clarification provided by ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises in attendance.
