The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of the Kulhudhuffushi Disaster Management Committee and other key local institutions, including the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Police, Hospital, Red Crescent, schools, and service providers.

The event saw the official inauguration of the Disaster Management Committee, with Mayor Mohamed Athif appointed as the Chairperson and Deputy Mayor Ali Ahmed as the Vice Chairperson.

A memorandum of understanding was signed with the participating institutions, and a GIS-based disaster response map was demonstrated to enhance coordination during emergency situations.

Kulhudhuffushi is the first city in the Maldives to officially establish a Disaster Management Committee and develop a City Emergency Operations Plan, in line with the requirements of Law No. 28/2015.
