Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim officially inaugurated laboratory services at the Himandhoo Health Centre.

With the launch, Himandhoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll becomes the 12th island to receive laboratory services under the government’s initiative to expand diagnostic facilities to 76 islands this year.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Health, members of the Himandhoo Council, and healthcare staff attended the inauguration ceremony.

Speaking at the event, the minister said the government is working to expand laboratory services across all targeted islands in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s directive.

“We are working to complete the laboratory service as soon as possible in all targeted islands,” he said.

Following the ceremony, Nazim met with the Senior Management Team of the Himandhoo Health Centre to discuss ongoing challenges and ways to improve service delivery.

Residents of Himandhoo have long travelled to neighbouring islands for laboratory services, including blood tests and transfusions. The new facility is expected to ease this burden and improve access to early diagnosis and treatment.
