President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the registration process for individuals who have not yet received registration under the previous government’s housing scheme is set to start this week.
Under the Housing scheme implemented by the previous government, a total of 9,001 land plots are slated to be allocated in the initial phase, covering areas such as Hulhumale’ 2, Hulhumale’ 3, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru.
Apart from land allocation, an additional 13,000 individuals are eligible for flats according to the permanent list of the Gedhoruveriya scheme established by the previous administration. However, before the end of their term, only 4,000 recipients have been identified for flats. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) intervened in response to over 7,000 complaints, leading to a halt in the allocation process.
The case has experienced delays, and numerous complaints have been filed with the ACC.
Muizzu also highlighted that the previous government had allocated land and flats in areas that had not undergone dredging. This announcement comes as the current government initiates dredging activities for the second phase of Hulhumale’ 3, extending from the Hulhumale’ coast to provide land to Male’ city residents.
Muizzu’s housing project is situated in Kaafu Atoll, involving the dredging of the Fushi dhiggaru lagoon and the development of a large city named Rasmale’.
Despite the ongoing work, Muizzu has assured that he will not acquire land from the existing scheme and transfer it to Rasmale’. Instead, he plans to focus on additional dredging activities in the Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru lagoon beyond the previous government’s initial plans.
