Lorry Driver Released After Thilafushi Accident Injures Expat

A lorry driver arrested in connection with an accident in K. Thilafushi that left a Sri Lankan expatriate seriously injured was released on Friday night.

The accident occurred at around 14:15 on Thursday when a 53-year-old Sri Lankan man, who had been waiting near Highmark, was struck by a lorry. The impact caused him to fall and be run over by the vehicle.

Police identified the driver as 28-year-old Indian national Vignesh Annadhurai, who was suspected of leaving the scene without providing assistance to the injured man.

Vignesh was presented before the court but was released without conditions after the Police failed to submit corroborating evidence.

The injured Sri Lankan has been admitted to the ward at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.

Police confirmed that the case remains under investigation.
