Practical work has begun on upgrading and converting the old sewerage system in the populated areas of Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll, alongside the installation of water and sewerage systems in the newly reclaimed areas of the island.
A special ceremony was held in Maafushi to mark the commencement of the projects, which are considered highly significant for the local community.
The sewerage system replacement involves the installation of a sewerage pumping station, junctions, integration of sewerage outflow, and related infrastructure works.
For the newly reclaimed area, the installation of water and sewerage systems includes two Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, each with a capacity of 1,500 tonnes, and two 3,500-tonne water tanks. The project also covers the installation of water meters and outflow systems.
Both projects are being implemented by the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and are expected to be completed within 571 days.
These developments mark a significant investment in Maafushi’s infrastructure, aimed at improving water supply, sanitation, and overall living conditions for residents.
