Raa Atoll currently has only one operational airport, which is located on Ifuru Island. However, several islands in the atoll have long called for additional air connectivity to meet growing demand. In response, an airport is also being developed on Alifushi Island.
During a recent visit to the atoll, President Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to beginning construction on the Fainu airport soon. He stated that the project would contribute to economic growth by creating employment opportunities and driving development in Fainu and neighbouring islands.
The president also emphasised his goal of expanding the number of resorts in the region. He noted that the new airport would play a crucial role in supporting tourism growth, further strengthening Raa Atoll’s economy.
