MACL Confirms Completion of VIA Terminal Ahead of July 26 Opening

Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Mohammed Lamaan, has confirmed the fulfilment of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to complete and open the New Passenger Terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA).
Speaking yesterday, Deputy MD Lamaan stated, “President Muizzu’s most significant commitment has been fully realised,” referring to the successful completion of the terminal project ahead of its scheduled opening on 26 July 2025.
As preparations continue for the terminal’s inauguration, MACL has commenced full-scale operational trials. Lamaan confirmed that all terminal systems are ready for launch.
Current Preparation Activities Include:
- Full Operational Trials: Extensive testing of systems and procedures
- System Integration: Validation of the terminal’s technology infrastructure
- Staff Readiness: Final stages of training and certification for operational teams
- Emergency Preparedness: Execution of fire safety and emergency response drills
Deputy MD Lamaan acknowledged the efforts of MACL personnel, highlighting their role in achieving this milestone.
“Our staff are performing outstanding work in preparing for the terminal’s opening. We greatly appreciate their dedication,” he said.
The final preparation phase involves systematic trials and last-stage testing of all equipment and processes to ensure the terminal meets international standards from day one.
MACL confirmed that the new terminal will significantly enhance passenger experience and operational capacity, delivering on the government’s broader infrastructure development objectives.
To mark the occasion, a surprise fireworks display is planned during the inauguration ceremony at Velana International Airport.
