MACL Plans International Standard Duty-Free Operation at Gan International Airport

Maldives Airports Company Limited is preparing to establish an international standard duty-free operation at the new terminal of Gan International Airport.

The initiative is aimed at introducing luxury retail services to the southern Maldives, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers while supporting increased tourist arrivals to the region.

The development forms part of broader government efforts to expand the national economy and diversify the tourism sector, with expectations that it will also contribute to opening new international air routes to Gan.

MACL stated that the duty-free operation will generate employment opportunities for young people, with training programmes to be delivered in collaboration with internationally recognised brands.

The project is aligned with the “Addu City Welcomes the World” vision, which seeks to strengthen and diversify the local economy.

The company added that the venture is expected to elevate the Maldives’ travel retail sector to internationally competitive standards.
