The new equipment, the TPX-200 MTX model, is regarded as a benchmark in the aviation industry for its safety and operational efficiency. Widely used in major international hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Singapore, the vehicle is designed to tow aircraft from the apron to the runway without the use of traditional towbars.
MACL stated that the introduction of towbarless technology is expected to enhance ground handling and overall operational efficiency by up to 60 percent. The system simplifies the towing process by removing the need for a separate towbar connection, which also reduces turnaround times. Its compatibility with a wide range of aircraft types makes it a practical solution for handling diverse fleets without requiring aircraft-specific equipment.
The company noted that eight trained operators are currently on standby, with operations set to commence following a final risk assessment by relevant stakeholders.
MACL’s Head of Ramp Services, Ali Shareef, said the initiative is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety and improve service standards at VIA. He noted that the new vehicles would contribute to faster aircraft handling and a more secure operational environment.
