At the ceremony, the First Lady Sajidha Mohamed emphasised the need for robust policies to foster real change and achieve gender equality. She highlighted the importance of identifying and tackling the specific challenges faced by women in the workplace.

MACL’s sponsorship reflects its commitment to empowering women across various sectors in the Maldives, in line with government goals. The conference focused on removing barriers and promoting women’s empowerment in the workplace.

Mahmooda Shareef, Senior General Manager of Aerodrome Management Services at MACL, addressed the conference, noting that while women are increasingly involved in engineering and airfield management roles, there remains a shortage of women in leadership positions. She affirmed that MACL is making significant efforts to rectify this imbalance, with a focus on creating opportunities and addressing gender-based challenges.

The conference featured two panel discussions with women from the tourism sector, who shared insights into the obstacles they face and the evolving attitudes towards women working in tourism. The event was organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Women in Management, Women on Boards, and the Women Entrepreneurs Association – Maldives.
