Maduvvari Ice Plant Transferred Under MIFCO

The ice plant in R. Maduvvari, previously managed by the island’s council, has been officially transferred under the state-owned Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO.)
The handover took place last Thursday, following a government decision. A ceremony at Maduvvari Council marked the signing of the handover agreement, with Maduvvari Council President Mohamed Sodhiq representing the council and acting-chief Ilyas Haneef representing MIFCO.
Muaz Ali, General Manager of MIFCO’s Project and Technical Department, confirmed that the takeover was effective immediately, and services at the ice plant have commenced.
The ice plant, which has a capacity of 25 metric tonnes and can store up to 50 tonnes of ice, will be managed by the engineering team from Felivaru Fisheries Complex (FFC). Ice will be sold to fishermen at a rate of MVR 750 per tonne.
Sodhiq mentioned that staff arrangements had been made for MIFCO’s management of the plant, including technicians and a cashier to ensure continued service to fishermen at reasonable prices.
The ice plant was first inaugurated in 2021 to mark Fishermen’s Day.
