The motion put forth by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), aimed at the removal of Ali Adam, the chief magistrate of HDh. Atoll, has been directed to the parliament’s Judiciary Committee for a comprehensive inquiry.

Ali Adam stands accused of initiating unwarranted communication with a woman who had lodged a divorce petition within the court.

JSC officially presented the motion to the parliament on July 23rd, setting in motion a process that will determine the fate of Magistrate Ali Adam.

The accusations against Ali Adam revolve around his involvement in inappropriate communication with a female party involved in a divorce case. This communication encompassed frequent phone calls and text messages, extending beyond the boundaries of judicial proceedings.

The content of these interactions implied an effort to establish a personal connection, and sensitive personal information about the couple was exchanged during these exchanges.

These actions prompted his suspension by the JSC, which determined that they were in violation of the established code of conduct for judges as outlined in the Judges Act.

Ali Adam’s suspension was initially imposed in May after an inquiry by the JSC uncovered compelling evidence related to the case. This suspension was subsequently extended indefinitely on July 23rd, pending the outcome of the parliamentary process.
