Commencing the final session of this year’s Parliament today, the House of Parliament concluded its session for the day following the announcement of three members’ names.

The primary focus of today’s assembly was the allocation of positions for members affiliated with various political parties and non-partisan representatives on the standing committees within the Parliament.

Nevertheless, as the session commenced, tensions escalated on the assembly floor when Speaker Mohamed Nasheed revealed that the Parliament had received correspondence from certain members who had joined The Democrats party.

Upon the commencement of proceedings, Nasheed conveyed that merely three members who had departed from the MDP and aligned themselves with The Democrats had formally informed the Parliament of their new affiliation.

Notably, the remaining members who underwent a party change had yet to submit an official notification of their transition to the parliamentary body.

Following the announcement of Dhaandhoo MP Yaugoob Abdullah, Kelaa MP Ibrahim Shareef, and Thinadhoo North MP Abdul Mughnee’s names by the Speaker, the members were requested to vacate the assembly floor. However, the session was adjourned as they declined to comply.
