The scheduled Majlis session was unable to start this morning due to insufficient quorum, with the requisite number of members not present in the Majlis chamber at 9:00 am.

The Speaker awaited the arrival of more members for an extended thirty-minute period in an attempt to reach the necessary quorum, but the quorum requirement remained unmet.

As a result, the session was officially adjourned, set to start again at 9:30 am, which did not happen either. During this intermission, Speaker Nasheed addressed the members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which holds a significant presence in Parliament with 56 MPs.

He urged the Majority Leader to take immediate action to address the ongoing quorum issue.

Speaker Nasheed emphasised the importance of sticking to the planned session schedule, highlighting the need to address crucial legislative tasks.

While many members are campaigning for the presidential election, this marks the third instance of quorum-related disruptions in the current parliamentary sessions, with two previous sessions having to be canceled for the same reason.
