Maldives and Qatar Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Ties and Cooperation

The Maldives and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their longstanding friendship, enhancing economic cooperation, and maintaining close collaboration on regional and multilateral issues.

Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, during which Dr Khaleel welcomed the Qatari delegation and expressed gratitude to Qatar’s leadership for its continued support to the Maldives.

The two Ministers emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, grounded in shared Islamic values, mutual respect, and close cooperation across various sectors. Discussions focused on expanding economic ties through trade, investment, tourism, higher education, fisheries, and agriculture. The Ministers also noted that strong connectivity between the Maldives and Qatar facilitates travel and promotes people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides expressed their commitment to continued collaboration at the multilateral level, highlighting shared dedication to peace, progress, and sustainable development. Dr Khaleel commended Qatar’s leadership in supporting the Palestinian cause and reiterated the Maldives’ solidarity with the people of Palestine.

The meeting concluded with both countries expressing confidence that bilateral relations will continue to strengthen, bringing long-term benefits to their peoples. The discussion highlighted renewed momentum in relations and a shared commitment to building on a solid foundation for the future.

Dr Khaleel was joined at the meeting by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya, Secretary Dr Hala Hameed, Ambassador-at–Large Abdullah Hameed, Additional Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha, and Deputy Desk Officer Fathmath Layana Ihusan.
