The initiative was inaugurated by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim alongside WHO’s Regional Director for Southeast Asia, Saima Wazed. The plan is set to be in effect from this year until the end of 2029.
The Health Ministry has identified five key priorities under the new plan. These include strengthening the healthcare system, investing in basic healthcare advancements, ensuring access to health services for underserved populations, addressing the intersection of health with social, economic, and business issues, and creating a health system capable of effectively responding to challenges and emergencies.
The Health Ministry underscored that the primary goal of this initiative is to guarantee equal access to healthcare for all individuals, free from discrimination. In support of this effort, WHO has pledged its full cooperation and assistance in implementing the plan.
