Bar Council said in a press release that the session will explore the development of the Maldives’ 2008 Constitution over the past 16 years.

It will examine the promises enshrined in the Constitution, the efforts made to fulfil them, and the challenges encountered along the way. Key topics include the protection of rights and freedoms, the establishment of an independent judiciary, and the overall system of governance. The discussion will also highlight lessons learned in these areas.

Dr. Shamsul Falaah, an expert in Maldivian Constitutional Law and Islamic Constitutionalism, will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Falaah has previously served as a member of the Judicial Service Commission and as a legal advisor at the President’s Office of the Republic of the Maldives. He is currently associated with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in New Zealand.
