The Maldivian government has strongly condemned Israel’s reported plan to transfer the administration of the Ibrahimi Mosque from Palestinian authorities to the Jewish Religious Council.
The condemnation was reiterated by the Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ambassador Ahmed Sareer, at an extraordinary open-ended meeting of the OIC held to discuss the issue.

Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel conveyed the government’s position, stating that these actions by Israel constitute “yet another grave violation of international law and a threat to any prospects of peace.”
The Ibrahimi Mosque, located in Hebron (Al-Khalil) in the occupied West Bank, is a site revered by both Muslims and Jews, who refer to it as the Cave of the Patriarchs. Its administration has long been a sensitive issue.
“The Maldives reaffirms our steadfast support for the people of Palestine. We will continue to advocate for their recognition and legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination and the protection of Islamic and cultural heritage in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” Minister wrote in his tweet.
