The initiative is part of the government’s Maldives 2.0 digital transformation agenda and aims to streamline customs operations. Currently, private individuals face delays due to the absence of a dedicated process for declaring personal duty-paying goods.
The new digital service will be launched in two phases via the national single window platform, Tradian, starting 1 January 2026. The first phase will initially cater to tourists, with full access for private individuals expected by the first quarter of 2026.
Tradian, officially launched on 20 April this year, has already centralised import and export procedures, making clearance processes faster and more efficient. Additional reforms, including 24/7 air cargo clearance, are expected to reduce processing times, facilitate trade, and improve transparency in customs operations.
Further details on the self-declaration service will be provided by MCS in the coming months.
