Maldives Expo 2025 to Showcase Thousands of Local Products and Innovations
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has announced that the upcoming Maldives Expo 2025 is expected to feature approximately 3,500 local products and innovations.
The event, scheduled to take place from 23 to 31 May at Central Park in Hulhumalé, aims to spotlight Maldivian brands and underscore the importance of domestic production, particularly in relation to the tourism sector.
Organised by the Business Center Corporation (BCC) in collaboration with various government agencies and institutions, the expo will highlight locally produced goods, including those intended for export within the tourism industry. The Ministry anticipates the event will play a key role in promoting economic growth and boosting national productivity.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Ahmed Mohamed stated during a recent appearance on the PSM News programme ‘Raajje Miadhu’ that approximately 5,000 products are expected to be featured this year. As of last Friday, entries had been received in 51 product categories from 21 islands. A dedicated category has also been created for State-owned companies, with around five expected to take part.
Maldives Expo 2025 will also include international participation, with Sri Lanka and India confirmed as attending nations. This element of the event reflects its broader aim of fostering regional cooperation and raising the profile of Maldivian industry on an international stage.
Under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the initiative forms part of a wider strategy to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. In line with this objective, the BCC has revised its policies to remove the previous limit of 15 product categories per participant. Exhibitors are now permitted to showcase an unlimited number of items, a change intended to create more opportunities for local businesses and individuals.
Additionally, the BCC has announced plans to implement programmes during the expo to support the development of Maldivian artists and help nurture creative talent across the country.
