Maldives’ Export Revenue Surges 222 Percent In July

The Maldives recorded an increase in export revenue in July, with figures showing a 222 percent rise compared to the same month last year.
According to data released by Maldives Customs Service, exports last month were valued at MVR 210 million, up from MVR 65 million in July 2024.

Between January and July this year, cumulative exports reached MVR 1.4 billion, reflecting a 57 percent increase compared to MVR 945 million during the same period last year.
Fish products continue to dominate the country’s exports, with frozen tuna and related products accounting for the largest share. Thailand was the leading export destination during the first seven months of the year, importing MVR 809.44 million worth of fish, followed by the United Kingdom with imports valued at MVR 252.46 million.
The last time Customs released monthly trade figures was in April 2024, when exports stood at MVR 292 million.
Despite the recent surge, the Maldives remains heavily dependent on imports. Imports excluding fuel amounted to MVR 3.6 billion in July alone, with the United Arab Emirates, India, Singapore, China, and Malaysia ranking among the country’s top suppliers.
