Maldives Feels Tremors from Earthquake in India’s Nicobar Islands

The Maldives Meteorology Service (MMS) confirmed that the country experienced tremors from a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that struck India’s Nicobar Islands on Monday night.
The earthquake occurred at approximately 11:41 p.m. Maldives time, with the epicentre located around 2,275 kilometres from the Maldives. Although the quake did not trigger a tsunami, residents in Malé and Hulhumalé reported feeling mild tremors.
MMS said the seismic monitoring station in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Kaadehdhoo, also recorded the earthquake’s impact.

Residents described the tremors as “minor shaking” and a “rocking sensation.” MMS stated there is no cause for concern but continues to monitor the situation closely.
According to Hindustan Times, there have not been any reports of casualties or damage from the earthquake.
