Sri Lankan citizens travelling to the Maldives will now be eligible for a 90-day free on-arrival tourist visa, according to an announcement by Maldives Immigration. The decision, which came into effect on 30th July 2025, marks a notable step in strengthening travel ties between the two nations.

The visa arrangement was finalised following discussions between Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during the latter’s recent state visit to the Maldives. President Dissanayake concluded his visit and returned to Colombo last night.

The new visa facility is being implemented under the bilateral agreement on visa facilitation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, in line with Maldivian immigration regulations.

A similar measure was introduced by Sri Lanka in January 2025, allowing Maldivian citizens to receive 90-day on-arrival visas when visiting Sri Lanka.

Officials from both countries have described the reciprocal visa policies as a reflection of the strong diplomatic relationship and growing people-to-people connections between the two countries.
