He has previously held several senior positions at Labuan FSA, including Director, Senior Director, and Deputy Director General, during which he managed key departments such as legal, supervision, policy, and human resources. From January 2020 to January 2025, he served as Executive Chairman of Labuan IBFC Inc. Sdn. Bhd.

His career includes leading contributions to Malaysia’s financial regulatory landscape. He drafted the Labuan Financial Services Authority Act 1996 and oversaw the review and modernisation of Labuan IBFC’s legal framework between 2008 and 2010. He also developed the first codified Islamic finance legislation in the offshore sector.

Datuk Iskandar has held positions on Malaysia’s National Anti-Financial Crime Centre and the National Coordinating Committee on Anti-Money Laundering. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the International Islamic University, an MBA, and a Doctorate in Management. He is a Certified Financial Investigator and a qualified Syariah lawyer in Sarawak.

MIFSA, which regulates the Maldives International Financial Centre (MIFC), stated that his appointment will support the government’s goal of establishing a next-generation, sustainable financial hub.

MIFC was launched earlier this year as a joint venture between the Government of Maldives and MBS Global Investments. The USD8.8 billion initiative aims to diversify the economy beyond tourism and position Malé as a leading financial hub in the Indian Ocean.
