Flight cancellations linked to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have prompted Maldivian authorities to issue coordinated advisories, urging both travellers and tourism operators to verify schedules before proceeding with travel arrangements.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment stated that airspace closures across several countries in the region have led to a number of cancelled flights, disrupting planned travel. The Ministry said it is working closely with relevant authorities to assess the challenges faced by affected travellers and to ensure necessary assistance is provided.

Resorts and tourism service providers have been requested to carefully confirm any changes to airline schedules before arranging transfers to airports. Travellers impacted by cancellations have been advised to follow updates and guidance issued by their respective airlines and relevant authorities.

Separately, Maldives Airports Company Limited issued a travel advisory on 28 February 2026 from Velana International Airport, noting that temporary airspace closures over several Middle Eastern countries may affect flights to the region.

MACL advised passengers travelling to the Middle East to monitor updates directly through their airline’s official website or mobile application before heading to the airport. Passengers were also encouraged to contact tour operators for rebooking or schedule change information and to allow additional time for necessary travel arrangements.

The airport operator directed travellers to the official flight information service for real-time updates and stated that it remains committed to maintaining efficient services at Velana International Airport during this period.

The advisories come as regional developments continue to affect aviation operations, with authorities emphasising the need for vigilance and coordination to minimise disruption to passengers.
