The Maldives National Defence Force Coastguard vessel Huravee is taking part in a major international naval exercise organised by the Indian Navy in Visakhapatnam, India.
The exercise, which is currently underway and is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, has brought together 85 military vessels from 74 countries. Of these, 66 ships are from the Indian Navy, while 19 vessels represent foreign nations.
Senior military officials from participating countries conducted a fleet review during the event, inspecting the vessels docked at the port.
The Maldives is represented at the exercise by Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem, Commandant of the MNDF Coastguard. During the visit, he held bilateral meetings with delegations from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Australia. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and strengthening collective efforts to promote maritime safety and security in the region.
According to the MNDF, participation in the exercise provides an opportunity to enhance the operational capabilities of the Maldivian military and to strengthen diplomatic and defence ties with international partners.
