The Maldives has been added to Apple’s official list of countries supporting ESIMS for Apple Watch, following the launch of the service by Ooredoo last month.
Ooredoo Maldives introduced the ESIMS feature as part of its broader efforts to enhance digital connectivity and support the nation’s transition into a digitally empowered society. The company stated that the new service would allow users to fully utilise the capabilities of the latest wearable technologies.
With the launch, Ooredoo offers six months of free Apple Watch cellular service to customers who subscribe to the special promotion. After the promotional period, the service will be available for MVR 200 per month.
The ESIMS feature is accessible to both prepaid and postpaid users. It enables Apple Watch wearers to make phone calls independently of their iPhones using the same mobile number across both devices.
In support of the rollout, Ooredoo’s eCommerce platform is currently offering the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch SE.
