Maldives Mourns Abdul Shakoor Abdulla, Veteran of 43 Years in Police and Defence Service

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the family of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Abdul Shakoor Abdulla, who passed away today.
Abdul Shakoor had served for 43 years in senior positions in both the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
President Muizzu said Abdul Shakoor Abdulla was a courageous and steadfast son of the Maldives who took part in the Maldivian military force that defended the nation during the transgressive attack of 3 November. He also played a leading role in improving the management of Maldivian prisons and in efforts to combat drug-related challenges, prioritising the nation throughout his life.

“In this time of grief, I extend my condolences to the family, as well as to the Maldivian soldiers and police. I pray that Allah grants the late Abdul Shakoor Abdulla a place in His vast mercy and eternal bounty in Paradise,” the President said.
Abdul Shakoor Abdulla passed away at the age of 75 while receiving treatment in India. His son, Ahmed Shuhad, confirmed in a post on Meta that his father passed away at 10:15 a.m. on 24 March 2026.

“I ask you all to remember him in your duas. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him mercy, expand his grave, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” Shuhad said.
His family is arranging to bring his body back to the Maldives. The Maldives Police Service also expressed condolences to his family.
