Finance Minister Moosa Zameer has held official talks with Oman’s Finance Minister Sultan bin Salim Al-Habsi to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in oil trade, energy, and wider economic sectors.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the meeting took place last Thursday during Minister Zameer’s official visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The discussions reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and expanding the longstanding economic relationship between the Maldives and Oman, which remains the Maldives’ largest trading partner, primarily due to fuel imports.

The talks focused on enhancing trade flows and identifying opportunities to capitalise on synergies in the maritime and fisheries sectors. Areas highlighted included maritime transport services, fisheries value chains, and related commercial activities.

The ministers also discussed potential collaboration on energy projects in the Maldives, with particular emphasis on supporting the country’s national development priorities.

The Ministry of Finance stated that it will continue to engage with Oman to advance shared economic objectives and to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, and project-based initiatives.
