Maldives Participates in the 118th Council of Ministers of the OACPS

At the 118th session of the Council of Ministers of the OACPS, the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Belgium, Geela Ali, delivered a statement on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs today. The meeting will occur in a hybrid format in Brussels, Belgium, from 4 to 6 December 2024.

In her statement, Ambassador Geela expressed appreciation to the Member States and the Secretariat of the OACPS for their continued support since becoming a full Member State of the organisation and highlighted the crucial role of the OACPS in bringing countries together in their efforts to address sustainable development, climate crisis and maintaining global peace and security. Additionally, she emphasised the importance of the OACPS-EU partnership and expressed confidently that it will result in economic benefits for the Maldives.

The OACPS, comprised of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States, was established in 1975 under the “Georgetown Agreement.” The Maldives became a full member state in 2022 and has been working with members of the OACPS and the European Union to address different global challenges.
