The Maldives participated in the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting held in London, with the country represented by High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Iruthisham Adam, on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel.

The meeting brought together foreign ministers and representatives from Commonwealth member states to discuss ongoing efforts to strengthen the organisation’s effectiveness. Discussions also focused on preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled to take place in November this year.

Member states used the meeting as a platform to exchange views on key challenges affecting Commonwealth countries and to consider ways the organisation can better respond to evolving global issues.

The Commonwealth currently comprises 56 member countries spanning Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific. Since rejoining the organisation, the Maldives has worked closely with the Commonwealth across a range of areas, including initiatives that support the interests and priorities of Small Island Developing States.

For the Maldives, engagement within the Commonwealth provides an avenue to collaborate with a broad group of countries on issues affecting small island nations, including sustainable development, climate vulnerability, and international cooperation.
