Maldives Post had denied accusations that they dismissed an employee for whistleblowing about alleged corruption within the company.
In response to a news article published last week, Maldives Post issued a press release yesterday refuting the claims circulating online. The company labelled the reports as false and condemned those responsible for spreading misinformation.
Maldives Post denied allegations of corruption, including claims that an employee was dismissed for whistleblowing. However, the company confirmed that an employee had been recently terminated, citing persistent misconduct. According to Maldives Post, a 10-month-long improvement plan had been implemented to address the employee’s behaviour, but despite multiple warnings, no progress was made.
The company further stated that the dismissed employee had repeatedly applied for internal job postings and expressed frustration over not being shortlisted for interviews. Maldives Post alleged that the former employee later brought in a “person of influence” to threaten the Managing Director, demanding a higher-paying position, a private office, and additional allowances as compensation for “lost opportunities.”
Allegations Denied by Maldives Post
As a state-owned enterprise, Maldives Post stated that it was their responsibility to clarify the allegations made against them. In a six-page press release, the company denied the following claims:
– The Post Office Shop at Velana International Airport was established to benefit specific parties.
– The current management manipulates employee sign-in times to prevent late penalties.
– Influence and nepotism are used in the hiring process.
– The company’s Managing Director receives an excessively high salary.
