During the session, Ambassador Geela Ali acknowledged the progress achieved by the organisation under the leadership of Secretary General Moussa Salef-Batraki, particularly in restructuring the secretariat, enhancing trade, and promoting sustainable development. She also emphasised the Maldives government’s dedication to fostering inclusive and sustainable development among OACPS member states.

Established in 1975 under the “Georgetown Agreement,” the OACPS brings together African, Caribbean, and Pacific nations to collaborate on shared challenges. The Maldives became a full member of the organisation on 9 December 2022 and has since worked with other members and the European Union to address global issues.
