The Maldives recorded its highest number of annual tourist arrivals in 2025, with more than 2.24 million visitors entering the country during the year.
Data from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment showed that a total of 2,246,516 tourists arrived in the Maldives in 2025, representing a 9.8 per cent increase compared to 2024, when arrivals stood at 2,046,615.
December recorded the highest monthly arrivals ever, with 224,455 tourists visiting the country, marking a new monthly record.
Monthly arrival figures for 2025 indicated steady growth throughout the year, with 214,863 tourists in January, 214,091 in February, 203,468 in March, 198,322 in April, 135,614 in May, 141,772 in June, 186,738 in July, 192,058 in August, 149,563 in September, 190,445 in October, 195,127 in November, and 224,455 in December.
China remained the largest source market for the Maldives, contributing 329,428 tourists, followed by Russia with 278,760 arrivals and the United Kingdom with 202,171 visitors.
Tourism performance in 2025 was further reflected in visitor expenditure, with travellers spending over USD 5.4 billion in the Maldives during the year. This figure marked the highest tourism revenue recorded to date and represented a 15.8 per cent increase compared to 2024.
