The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has reported that the service has transported 3,617 tonnes of goods.
The service, inaugurated on 15 May 2024, is a new initiative aimed at streamlining logistics and maximising the Maldives’ extensive connectivity, following global models of integrated sea-to-air cargo operations.
Data released by the Ministry indicate that between 15 May 2024 and 7 November 2025, the service saw rapid growth and integration. During this period, 17 international airlines joined the network, facilitating shipments to 24 countries worldwide.
The specialised operation is a collaborative effort between the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), with Turkish Airlines being the first carrier to join the initiative.
The government highlighted that the high number of international airlines operating in the Maldives offers substantial opportunities for further expansion of the sea-to-air transit service, reinforcing its role as a high-value growth sector for the national economy.
