Maldives has secured the South Asian Super Cup 2025 Championship with a decisive victory over Sri Lanka.

The tournament, originally planned for four participating nations, concluded with a two-team final between Maldives and Sri Lanka. Maldives last claimed international silverware in 2018, when they lifted the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship in India.

The first leg of the two-legged final took place on 6 September at Colombo’s Race Course Stadium, where Maldives delivered a dominant 3-0 victory. The second leg, played on Tuesday evening, ended in a 1-1 draw, confirming a 4-1 aggregate triumph for the Maldivian side.

Maldives began the second leg strongly, creating three clear chances within the opening 15 minutes. However, Sri Lanka showed greater defensive discipline compared to the first encounter. The deadlock was broken in the 66th minute when a cross from Ali Fasir was headed on by Ibrahim Mahudhy and finished by Naiz Hassan.

Sri Lanka responded with an equaliser in the closing stages, but it was not enough to overturn Maldives’ advantage from the first leg. The result secured the nation’s first international title since 2018 and reignited optimism about the future of Maldivian football.
