At the forum, Minister Saeed underlined the administration’s focus on reducing dependence on tourism and supporting broader economic diversification. He explained that the Special Economic Zone portfolio currently offers investment opportunities exceeding USD 680 million across various strategic sectors. These include concrete, development-ready projects aimed at strengthening the country’s economic resilience.

Among the highlighted projects is a major renewable energy initiative that has already received approval, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure. Minister Saeed also noted that there was sustained investor interest in other areas, particularly tourism, and emphasised that all investments would be conducted within a stable and transparent commercial framework governed by Maldivian law.

The minister further spoke of the longstanding ties between the Maldives and Singapore, describing the bilateral relationship as one rooted in mutual respect. He acknowledged Singapore’s significant role in supporting the Maldivian tourism industry, crediting both Singapore Airlines and private-sector partners for their contributions to the sector’s continued growth.

In concluding his address, Minister Saeed characterised the partnership between the two island nations as an example of how smaller states can achieve substantial economic progress through long-term cooperation and strategic engagement.
