Maldives Set For Heavy Rain As Southwest Monsoon Intensifies

The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast widespread rain across the country over the next three days as the southwest monsoon intensifies.

According to the agency, the prevailing monsoon conditions have strengthened, bringing an increased likelihood of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds throughout the week. The weather is expected to gradually improve from early next week.
Rainfall is likely in the northern and central regions over the next 24 hours. In the northern atolls, winds are expected to blow from the west to northwest at speeds between 5 and 15 miles per hour. Other parts of the country are forecast to experience winds from the southwest to west at speeds of 8 to 18 miles per hour.
The sea is expected to remain calm in the northern atolls, while moderately rough conditions are anticipated in the central and southern regions.
