Maldives to Enforce ICC Arrest Warrants, Says Minister

MV+ News Desk | November 30, 2024

The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, has affirmed that the Maldives will enforce rulings issued by international courts, stating that no individual is exempt from this policy.

This statement follows public debate over whether the Maldives would act on an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) if Netanyahu were to travel to the country. Addressing the matter, Ihusaan reiterated to Mihaaru News that the Maldives is committed to adhering to international law and would implement such rulings unequivocally.

The ICC recently issued arrest warrants for several individuals, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif. This move has drawn global attention, intensifying discussions about the enforcement of international justice.

Ihusaan’s remarks underscore the Maldives’ position as a staunch supporter of the ICC’s authority and international judicial processes.
