The Maldives has been confirmed as the host of the 42nd General Meeting and Conference of the Asian Bankers Association (ABA), with the Bank of Maldives (BML) appointed as the official organiser of the event.

The announcement was made during the 41st ABA Conference, which took place earlier this week in Bhutan. At the same event, BML’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, was appointed as Vice Chairman of the ABA.

The ABA Conference serves as a major platform for banking and finance professionals across Asia to discuss industry challenges, explore emerging opportunities, and exchange perspectives on the future of the financial sector.

This will be the second time that BML hosts the event, following its successful organisation of the conference in 2018. The bank described its renewed role as host as a reflection of its increasing influence and leadership within the regional financial landscape.

The 2026 conference is expected to gather chief executives, senior banking officials, and financial experts from ABA member countries. The programme will include panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions addressing key issues and innovations in the banking and financial services industry.
