Maldives Too Small to be Involved in Geopolitical Rivalries, Says Muizzu Referencing India-China
Maldives’ President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, following his electoral victory on the PPM-PNC ticket, underscored the nation’s approach towards the India-China rivalry, emphasising the commitment to nurturing friendly relations with all nations, during a Bloomberg TV interview.
Amid growing tensions between India and China, Muizzu highlighted Maldives’ commitment to avoiding entanglement in the conflicts and rivalries among major powers.
When questioned about the potential strengthening of ties with China amidst the regional tensions, Muizzu reiterated the Maldives’ reluctance to engage in the disputes of major powers.
“Maldives will respect the international norms and laws and do not want to be entangled with geopolitical rivalries between bigger nations… we are too small for that,” Muizzu stated during the interview.
Muizzu remarks echo the Maldives’ stance on maintaining a neutral and diplomatic position, steering clear of entangling alliances and focusing on fostering relations based on international norms and cooperation.
