The Maldivian government had earlier set an ambitious target of attracting two million visitors annually by 2024. According to the Ministry of Tourism, this milestone is expected to be achieved before the end of the year.

“Proud to share that the Maldives has surpassed last year’s total tourist arrivals!” Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal announced yesterday via a post on X. He highlighted that this achievement reflects the dedication of the Maldivian tourism sector and the continued support of international travellers.

Minister Faisal also noted that the annual target is likely to be met by December 25, based on current trends.

In addition to record-breaking tourist numbers, the Maldives was once again crowned the “World’s Leading Destination” at the 2024 World Travel Awards, marking the fifth consecutive win for the island nation.
