The Maldives has welcomed the 2 millionth tourist of the year, a figure reached earlier than last year, reaffirming the nation’s continued rise as one of the world’s most desired holiday destinations.

The two millionth tourist, Bethany Sarah Kerswell from the United Kingdom, touched down at Velana International Airport (VIA) this morning at 11:15 a.m. aboard Virgin Atlantic’s flight VS384, arriving from London Heathrow Airport. She is travelling with her husband, and the British couple will be spending their holiday at the OUTRIGGER Maldives Maafushivaru Resort in South Ari Atoll.

To commemorate this significant achievement, Visit Maldives, the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, and industry partners jointly organised a warm and vibrant welcome ceremony at VIA. The arrival area came alive with traditional boduberu drumming, presenting the couple with an authentic taste of Maldivian hospitality the moment they stepped into the country.

During the ceremony, Bethany Sarah Kerswell and her husband were presented with special welcome tokens, marking their place in Maldivian tourism history as the 2 millionth arrival of the year.

This milestone highlights the strength of the Maldives’ tourism industry, which continues to record steady growth and resilience, supported by expanded connectivity, strong brand positioning, and a high global demand for the Maldives’ unique luxury and natural beauty.
