The accolade was presented to Visit Maldives CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree at a ceremony held at the National Gallery in London, coinciding with the World Travel Market 2025.
This year, the Maldives was nominated in two categories: Most Popular Country and Most Popular Island Destination. The Bronze win in the island category reflects the country’s enduring appeal among international travellers, particularly in the United Kingdom.
With over 4.8 million votes cast, the award underscores the Maldives’s continued popularity and strong brand presence in global tourism.
Now in its 24th edition, the Wanderlust Readers’ Travel Awards are regarded as among the most prestigious accolades in the tourism industry. The Maldives competed against renowned destinations including the Galapagos Islands, the Bahamas, Tasmania, and Bermuda.
In addition to the Wanderlust recognition, the Maldives also won two major titles in the Indian Ocean category of the World Travel Awards 2025: Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination and Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination.
The Maldives has consistently earned top honours in regional and international tourism awards over the past five years, highlighting its ongoing appeal to travellers worldwide.
