Team Fannu Verin Wins Maldives Youth Hackathon with Marketplace App for Entrepreneurs
An app for entrepreneurs to network and market their goods and services has won MVR100,000 at The Maldives Youth Hackathon, otherwise known as “YouthHackMV”. Designed by Team Fannu Verin, the app was one of 10 proposals pitched at the hackathon.
The hackathon concluded last night with presentations from 10 teams on three key areas: mental health, innovative marketplace and creator economy.
The two-day event was hosted by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment Information and Arts, and aimed to foster innovative solutions for the challenges faced by youth and women in the Maldives; The initiative aligns with the government’s Week 14 agenda to empower individuals in the industry and enhance coding skills among Maldivian youth.
During the hackathon, participants focused on three key areas:
1. Mental Health: Teams developed technological solutions to address mental health issues, aiming to improve overall well-being.
2. Innovative Marketplace: Participants worked on e-commerce solutions to boost digital capabilities and facilitate business growth.
3. Creator Economy: Teams innovated applications to support digital creators, offering solutions for physical wellness, mindfulness, and mental health.
Ooredoo Maldives, alongside partners such as MasterCard, Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB), and RajeOnline (ROL), provided vital support for the hackathon. Technical assistance and logistical arrangements were handled by SparkHub.
A total of 42 enthusiastic individuals, forming 10 teams consisting of 29 males and 13 females, participated in the hackathon, each bringing their unique perspectives and skills to the table.
The hackathon, spanning 30 hours, featured mentoring sessions from technology experts and judging by experienced professionals in the respective domains.
